How to Homeschool Part 1
Welcome to the wonderful world of teaching your child or children from home. Being a homeschooling parent myself, I know how many fears and worries can be associated with making such a big decision. I also know how much information you can be inundated with when you are trying to crossover to homeschooling. This workshop will help you sort through the information needed to successfully start your homeschool journey in Florida.
Our learning objectives for this whole course will be divided in 4 parts blog and they are:
Getting Started with Homeschooling
Rules and Laws
Curriculum and Planning
Portfolio and Evaluations
A little about me: I am a former public school teacher who decided to homeschool my now 11 year old. My 8 year old will be along for the ride this year and my 5 year old gets to go to do our Kind Academy @ Home program which includes art, nature, sensory, reading, math, and pre-writing activities (of course all with tons of play). I am certified in elementary education, special education, and guidance counseling. I have a Master’s of Education in School Counseling and love helping kids develop social and emotional skills. I mostly taught students with special needs during my time in Public School and realized how personalized their learning could be if done properly. Our special education students had things like academic goals, individualized education plans, and accommodations to make the classroom work for them. My job was to make sure they were getting these accommodations to “fit” their needs. I figured every student deserved this type of individualized learning, so started our program to serve all children.
Part 1: Getting Started with Homeschooling
What is your WHY?
Take a moment to think about why you are choosing to homeschool. Write your reasons down on a piece of paper. If you are still not sure if you are going to homeschool, write the reasons you are considering it.
When you are done, introduce yourself and share your reasons with our Homeschooling Community found here.
Stay tuned for our next blog on How to Homeschool Part 2, we will be talking about the Rules and Laws required to homeschool in the State of Florida.
*Please be aware that you should always check the homeschool laws in your specific county/state before homeschooling*
