Virtual Spring Break: Potion Play
Another one of our favorite low-prep activities we do with the kiddos in class is potion play! Kids of all ages love mixing things and adding some "magical ingredients" make it so much more fun!
You probably remember doing this as a kid growing up as well. Hopefully this one is just as fun for you and your littles as it is for ours.
Supplies:
a jar or cup (clear works well so you can see all the action)
water
food coloring, paint, or water colors. If you don't have any of the above, you can make some at home with old markers and water! Find the process here!
a stick for stirring
Optional Supplies if you have them
vinegar
baking soda
dish soap
anything else you want to throw into the "potion"
Process:
You can honestly do this in any order and your child will probably want to do it over and over again anyway but these steps are good for the first time.
Step 1: Allow your child to help you place all of the supplies on a table
Step 2: Fill the jar or cup halfway up with water
Step 3: Let your child add the color and allow them to see what happens as the colors combine. Sticks are great tools for mixing!
Stop here if you don't have the rest of the supplies.
Step 4: Add about a teaspoon of baking soda to the mix
Step 5: Add a squirt of dish soap to the mixture
Step 6: Add some vinegar and watch the magic happen!
Step 7: Have fun mixing
