STEAM Lesson Plan: Kind Rainbow Potions
Today was absolutely amazing! We hung out with our Kind Co-op for the first time in a while
and we had so much fun trying a cool STEAM Lesson from our Kind Camp Curriculum. My littles had so much fun that we had to do it at home, too!
It is super simple but hits on so many different levels of learning that we had to do it over and over again.
Here's what you will need to do this one at home:
Baking Soda
Vinegar
a tablespoon
paint in 7 different colors of the rainbow
7 clear cups or jars
First, gather your materials (we do messy experiments like this one outside).
Next, add a dollop of each color to one cup so that you have a red, an orange, a yellow, a blue, green, indigo, and pink in their own individual cup. Then, add a tablespoon of baking soda to each cup and line all of your cups up in a row. Finally, add your vinegar all down the line to make a beautiful rainbow!
We really loved this activity and it is great for so many reasons. Rainbows are a big theme around here for the month of June (Happy Pride, y'all) and it is great to start talking about the importance of diversity and inclusion.
Some other key learning points from this activity
naming colors
talking about primary and secondary colors
counting (7 cups, 7 colors)
patience (we had to wait until all the colors were in before moving to the next step
pouring
measuring with our tablespoon
science (carbon dioxide is created when you mix vinegar and baking soda together)
art: this is amazing and visually stimulating for sure
We hope you enjoyed this lesson as much as we did! Let us know if you do it below or tag us on Instagram @kind_academy with your pics!
